Sprung on Spring!

First of all HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!

I love love love when we spring forward an hour (it’s been a week already, I know)…. but not because I like losing an hour of sleep, but because I like gaining an hour of daylight! I can’t stand when it gets dark early because I feel like I can’t get anything done. There is something that just feels good about getting home and having so much time to do things outside. Makes me think I’m not working my life away. So that’s why I am SPRUNG ON SPRING.

It also happens that the weather is GORGEOUS! Spring and Fall are my favorite times in Texas because of the 70-80 degree weather. The summer is awfully hot and I just so happen to live in the only house in Texas that doesn’t have Air Conditioning. We have window units but we kick it old school on central heating and air. I have often said the only thing that separates us from Little House on the Prairie is that we don’t have dirt floors (although our old floors are DIRTy).

So with the Spring weather comes some of my  Spring cravings!

  1. 1. I want to clean everything out and just CLEAN in general (why does spring do that to us?).

  2. I have cleaned out the entire house (which seriously needed some deep cleaning- especially after having those wonderfully messy babies here!) The cleaning propelled my thoughts to “What the Hell do I do in the winter?” just sit around and eat? (yes actually).
  3.  2. Spring also makes me want to PLANT the crap out of everything (I am much more like my mother than I realized).

  4. We have an empty herb box (that my boyfriend’s brother built- he rocks at woodworking) right now that is screaming “Fill me with pretty things!”. Obviously I can’t ignore the requests of inanimate objects, so what do I do? I immediately jump into my car and go to Home Depot to buy things to put in said herb box.  Home Depot has a sale on their herbs right now 5 for $15. So naturally I end up spending way more than that (and plan on going back for more SHHH don’t tell Alex).   Don’t you here it screaming? (I also might be crazy).

Herbs: peppermint, sweet basil, cilantro (Freckles’ fav), Dill, Rosemary, Lavender, Nonherb Plants: Autumn Fern

As you can see I planted the Lavender and Rosemary in separate pots. They love DRY and HOT areas. The herb box would piss them off. Also, Rosemary can get crazy when growing (I am hoping for a bush!) so I put it in a large pot (looks a little funny now but eventually it won’t- oh, I didn’t include a picture of the rosemary-use your imagination for Pete’s sake).

3. I want to bake (everything).

I have no idea why spring makes me want to cook new things or bake something yummy (maybe because it’s fresh?). We have Alex’s father coming over for dinner tonight (menu: hamburgers, home fries, and berry cobbler with ice cream for dessert- I know you wanted to know what was up for sup). I haven’t ever made berry cobbler but that post is coming soon!

4. I want to work on goal setting

(don’t ask me why the Spring makes me evaluate my life goals- we should make our resolutions in the spring). I just feel productive and I am going to take advantage of it!

5. I want to craft!

There is something about fresh beginnings in the spring. It makes me just start a ton of projects. I think this goes hand in hand with setting goals and being productive.

6. I want to read!

There is nothing nicer than watching a Texas sunset whilst sitting on the porch and drinking some ice cold water with some fresh squeezed lemon or lime (as long as you have done the precautionary bug repellant).

There is only one thing that I DO NOT like about spring and that is that I have to shave my legs (MAJOR eye rolling) and make sure my toes are somewhat non hobbit like (annoying AF). Oh, and June bugs. I HATE them (there is nothing worse than when your soaking in the sunset and you get dive bombed by a June bug).

Tell me, what are some of your spring cravings?!?!
